Jayson Anthony Paul was born on December 10, 1984, in Brooklyn, New York. He went to John Dewey High School, where he took acting and drama classes.
Professional Wrestling Career
First Run in WWE (2006–2007)
Paul began his career in 2006 at Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW), which was a place for new wrestlers to train for WWE. He used the ring name The Neighborhoodie and was quickly paired with Shad Gaspard to form a tag team. Together, they won the OVW Southern Tag Team Championship twice.
In 2006, the team was promoted to WWE's Raw brand. They changed their name to Cryme Tyme, and Paul became known as JTG. They became fan favorites with their fun-loving gimmick. As part of their characters, they would often pretend to steal items from other wrestlers and sell them to the audience.
At the Cyber Sunday event, fans voted for Cryme Tyme to compete in a Texas Tornado tag team match, which they won. A few months later, at New Year's Revolution, they won a match that earned them a chance to compete for the World Tag Team Championship.
In a storyline, Cryme Tyme took a car belonging to the tag team Deuce 'n Domino and pretended to sell it for parts. This was part of their on-screen characters. On September 2, 2007, both JTG and Gaspard were released from their WWE contracts.
Return to WWE
Cryme Tyme's Second Chance (2008–2010)
Cryme Tyme made a surprise return to WWE on the March 31, 2008, episode of Raw. They soon began working with superstar John Cena. They formed a group called CTC, which stood for "Cryme Tyme Cenation." They helped Cena by vandalizing the limousine of his rival, JBL.
Cryme Tyme also had a rivalry with the World Tag Team Champions, Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes. They even stole their championship belts for a while but lost the official title match at the Unforgiven event.
In 2009, Cryme Tyme was moved to the SmackDown brand. They earned a match for the Unified WWE Tag Team Championship at SummerSlam against Jeri-Show (Chris Jericho and Big Show). Although JTG pinned the famous Chris Jericho in a match leading up to the event, Cryme Tyme lost their championship match at SummerSlam.
The End of Cryme Tyme
On April 2, 2010, after a quick loss to John Morrison and R-Truth, Gaspard attacked JTG. This surprising turn broke up the team and started a rivalry between the two former partners. Their feud ended in a strap match at Extreme Rules, which JTG won.
Wrestling on His Own (2010–2014)
After Cryme Tyme split, JTG competed as a singles wrestler on SmackDown and Superstars. He was later chosen as a "Pro" for the show NXT Redemption, where he mentored a new wrestler named Jacob Novak. During this time, JTG became a heel, or a "bad guy" character.
JTG had a rivalry with Vladimir Kozlov and his rookie, Conor O'Brian. He also had a storyline where he got a makeover from fellow wrestler Alicia Fox. On the May 9, 2012, episode of NXT Redemption, JTG showed off his new look and defeated Yoshi Tatsu. This was his only win in 2012. For the rest of his time in WWE, he often wrestled in matches to help make other stars look strong. JTG was released from WWE on June 12, 2014.
Independent Circuit Career (2014–Present)
After leaving WWE, JTG and Shad Gaspard reunited on the independent circuit, wrestling for various promotions under the name "Crime Time." They wrestled together for the last time in February 2020. Sadly, Gaspard passed away a few months later in May 2020.
JTG returned to wrestling as a singles competitor in August 2020. He has since competed in many promotions, including Game Changer Wrestling (GCW) and VxS Wrestling. In November 2020, he won the VIP Wrestling Heavyweight Championship, his first major singles title.
On April 1, 2022, JTG appeared at the 2022 WWE Hall of Fame ceremony. He joined Shad Gaspard's wife and son as Gaspard was honored with the Warrior Award.
Other Media and Projects
JTG has written three books. His first two were titled ...! Why Did I Write This Book? and its sequel. He has also appeared in movies like Bad Night and the TV film The Last Sharknado: It's About Time.
JTG is also an entrepreneur. He founded a beard and body care line and created an app called Earsaye, which makes audio memes.
As a video game character, JTG has appeared in WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2008, WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009, WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2010, and WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2011.
