Jabar Shumate (born January 26, 1976) is an American who used to be a politician and a university official in Oklahoma. He was a member of the Democratic Party. Shumate served in both the Oklahoma Senate and the Oklahoma House of Representatives.

Early Life and Education
Jabar Shumate was born on January 26, 1976, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He went to the University of Oklahoma. There, he earned a bachelor's degree in public affairs and administration. While he was a student, he was chosen to be the student body president.
Serving in Politics
Jabar Shumate was a member of the Oklahoma House of Representatives from 2004 to 2012. He then served in the Oklahoma Senate from 2012 to 2015.
Focus on Education and Health
During his time as a lawmaker, Shumate worked on important issues. He focused on making education better for students. He also worked on health topics for the community. He helped write a study to find ways to encourage healthier food choices. This study looked at neighborhoods in urban Tulsa.
Leadership Roles in the Legislature
Shumate also held leadership roles. He was part of the Oklahoma legislative black caucus. This group works on issues important to African-American communities. In 2012, he ran for a state Senate seat. He won the election and moved from the House to the Senate.

After about three years in this position, Shumate left the university. He resigned from his role in 2018.

Jabar Shumate married Jillian Leggett on November 12, 2011. He had proposed to her earlier that year, on February 13, 2011, at his church.
