Jabar Shumate, born on January 26, 1976, is an American who used to be a politician and a university leader in Oklahoma. He was a member of the Democratic Party. Shumate served in both the Oklahoma Senate and the Oklahoma House of Representatives.

About Jabar Shumate
Jabar Shumate was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on January 26, 1976. He went to the University of Oklahoma. There, he earned a bachelor's degree in public affairs and administration. While he was a student, he was chosen to be the student body president.
His Time in Politics
Jabar Shumate worked as a politician in Oklahoma. He was a member of the Oklahoma House of Representatives from 2004 to 2012. During this time, he focused on important issues like improving education and health. He helped write a study to find ways to encourage healthier food choices in Tulsa neighborhoods. He also held leadership roles in the Oklahoma legislative black caucus.
In 2012, Shumate decided to run for a seat in the Oklahoma Senate. He won the election and served in the Senate until 2015.
Working at the University of Oklahoma
In 2015, Jabar Shumate was given a new job at the University of Oklahoma. He became the Vice President of University Community. This role was created to help connect the university with the wider community.
Leaving the University
After about three years in his role, an internal review looked into how university property was being used. The review found that some university property had been used incorrectly. Because of these findings, Jabar Shumate resigned from his position.
Shumate later said that he felt he was forced to resign. He denied that he had done anything wrong.

Jabar Shumate married Jillian Leggett on November 12, 2011. He had asked her to marry him earlier that year, on February 13, 2011, at his church.
