Jack's Restaurant was a very old and famous place to eat in San Francisco, California. It opened its doors way back in 1863. This made Jack's the second oldest restaurant in the entire city, right after another well-known spot called Tadich Grill. For many years, it was a popular place where people enjoyed delicious meals.

Jack's Restaurant had a long and interesting history. It was a special part of San Francisco for over a century.
Becoming a Landmark
Because of its long history and importance, Jack's Restaurant was given a special title. In 1981, it was officially named a San Francisco Designated Landmark. This means the building and its history are protected. It's like saying, "This place is really important to our city's story!"
New Ownership and a New Name
In 2002, a talented chef from France named Philippe Jeanty bought Jack's. He brought new ideas to the restaurant. Chef Jeanty decided to change the name to Jeanty on Jack's. He wanted it to feel like a French-style restaurant, known as a brasserie. People could enjoy classic French dishes there.
The Restaurant's Closure
Sadly, Jeanty on Jack's closed suddenly in May 2009. After many years of serving customers, the restaurant's long journey came to an end.
What Happened to the Building?
Even though the restaurant closed, the building itself remained. In June 2016, a company called Bar Works bought the building. It was a large space, about 6,000 square feet. The company planned to turn the old restaurant into a co-working space. This is a place where different people can work together in shared offices. They also planned to include a place for food and a bar.
