Jackson Williams' Baseball Journey
Starting in College
Jackson played baseball in college at the University of Oklahoma. He also played summer baseball in a special league. This league was called the Cape Cod Baseball League. He played for the Yarmouth–Dennis Red Sox and the Hyannis Mets.
Joining the San Francisco Giants
The San Francisco Giants picked Jackson in the first round of the 2007 Major League Baseball Draft. This means they chose him as one of the top new players. He played for teams in the Giants' organization until 2013. However, he did not play in the major leagues during this time.
Playing for the Colorado Rockies
Before the 2014 season, Jackson signed a deal with the Colorado Rockies. This was a "minor league" deal. Minor league teams help players get ready for the major leagues.
Jackson was called up to the major leagues for the first time on June 22, 2014. This was a big step in his career!
A Short Time with the Angels
The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim picked up Jackson on October 22, 2014. This happened through a process called "waivers."
Back with the Giants
Jackson never played a major league game for the Angels. On March 17, 2015, the San Francisco Giants bought his contract. This meant he returned to the team that first drafted him.
In September 2015, Jackson was called up to the Giants' main team. He played in 7 games. He got 2 hits and walked 4 times in 14 chances to bat.
Another Stint with the Rockies
On November 10, 2015, Jackson signed another minor league contract. This time, it was again with the Colorado Rockies. In 2016, he played for two of their minor league teams. These were the Hartford Yard Goats and the Albuquerque Isotopes. He decided to become a free agent after that season.
Time with the Pittsburgh Pirates
Jackson spent the 2017 season with two minor league teams. These teams were the Altoona Curve and the Indianapolis Indians. He signed another minor league contract with the Pirates on December 24, 2017. He played 26 games for their minor league teams. After the 2018 season, Jackson became a free agent again.
