A Look Back: Jacksonville's History
Jacksonville was first planned out in the year 1815. It was given its name to honor a very important person: Andrew Jackson. He was a brave officer during the War of 1812 and later became the seventh President of the United States.
A post office was opened in Jacksonville in 1820, helping people send and receive letters. However, the name of the post office was changed to Dunbarton in 1827. Eventually, this post office closed its doors in 1909.
