Jacob Black is a character from the popular Twilight book series by Stephenie Meyer. He is a Native American from the Quileute tribe. In the first book, Twilight, he is 15. He turns 16 in New Moon and 17 in Eclipse.
When he turns 16, he discovers he can transform into a werewolf. Jacob is very tall (6 feet 7 inches) and muscular, with black hair. Throughout the series, Jacob is a close friend to Bella Swan and has strong feelings for her. He often finds himself in a love triangle with Bella and Edward Cullen.
Jacob's Role in the Books
In the first book, Twilight, Jacob plays a small but important part. He tells Bella Swan about old Quileute legends. These stories help Bella understand that Edward Cullen might be a vampire.
Originally, the author Stephenie Meyer planned for Jacob to have a smaller role. But she and her editor liked him so much that his part grew. He became a much bigger character in the next books, New Moon and Eclipse.
Jacob in the Movies
The actor Taylor Lautner plays Jacob Black in the Twilight movies. He continued to play Jacob in all the Twilight Saga films, even doing his own stunts!
