Early Life in Soccer
Jade Rose started playing soccer when she was young. She first played with the Markham SC team. Later, she joined the Unionville-Milliken SC. After that, she moved to the NDC Ontario Regional Excel (REX) Program. This program helps young players get better at soccer.
College Soccer Career
In 2018, coaches from the Harvard Crimson women's soccer team noticed Jade. She decided to go to Harvard University for college in 2021. There, she also played for their women's soccer team.
First Year at Harvard
Jade scored her first college goal on September 2, 2021. This was against the Boston University Terriers. She scored her first game-winning goal on September 15, 2021. This important goal happened in double overtime against the Northeastern Huskies.
After her first year, Jade received many awards. She was named to the All-Ivy First Team. She was also on the All-East Region First Team. A group called Top Drawer Soccer put her on their First-year Best XI list. She was also named a player to watch by the United Soccer Coaches.
Second Year at Harvard
After her second year, Jade was named the Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year. This means she was the best defender in her league. She was also an Ivy League First Team All-Star. She continued to receive awards, including being named to the All-New England First-Team. She was also a United Soccer Coaches Second Team All-American.
Club Soccer Career
Jade has played for a few different club teams.
- In 2017, she played for Unionville-Milliken SC. This was in a league called League1 Ontario.
- In 2022, she played with NDC Ontario. This team was also in League1 Ontario.
- In 2023, she played for FC Premier Women. This team was part of the Women's Premier Soccer League.
Playing for Canada
Jade has played for Canada's national teams since she was young.
Youth National Teams
She played for Canada at several big tournaments.
- In 2018, she played in the CONCACAF Girls' Under-15 Championship.
- She also played in the 2018 CONCACAF Women's U-17 Championship.
- Later that year, she was in the 2018 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup.
- In 2020, she played in the 2020 CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship.
In 2019, Jade was invited to train with the senior national team. This was her first time with the older players. She was named the Canadian Youth International Female Player of the Year in 2020. She won this award again in December 2021.
Senior National Team
Jade joined the Canadian senior squad for the 2021 SheBelieves Cup. She played her first game for the senior team on February 21 against Argentina.
U20 World Cup and Senior Team Success
In 2022, Jade was the captain of Canada's U20 team. They played in the 2022 CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship. The team finished third, which helped them qualify for the 2022 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. Jade also played in this World Cup.
After the U20 World Cup, Jade was called up to the senior team again. They played two friendly games against Australia. In the second game on September 6, Jade played very well. She helped stop Australian star player Sam Kerr. She also helped set up the winning goal for Adriana Leon. The Guardian newspaper called her "the star of the show."
Recent International Play
Jade was chosen for Canada's team for the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup. However, she had to leave the team because of an injury. In September, she was called back for the Olympic qualification playoff. This was against Jamaica. Canada's coach decided to start Jade in both games. Canada won against Jamaica and qualified for the 2024 Summer Olympics. In 2023, Jade was named Canada's Young Player of the Year for the third time.
Jade joined the team for the first 2024 CONCACAF W Gold Cup. She played full games in the group stage, quarter-finals, and semi-finals. Canada lost to the United States in a penalty shootout. After this tournament, many people thought Jade had earned a permanent spot in the team's starting lineup.
