History of Jadraque

Jadraque is well-known for its amazing medieval castle. This castle is often called the Castle of Cid. It stands tall and has been an important landmark for centuries.

The Castle's Ownership

The castle of Jadraque changed hands in the past. On January 27, 1470, a deal was made. Alfonso Carrillo de Acuña, a powerful archbishop, traded the castle. He gave it to Pedro González de Mendoza, a very important cardinal. In return, Alfonso received the town of Maqueda and a leadership role in Toledo. This exchange shows how valuable the castle was.

Jadraque's Land in the Past

By the early 1500s, the land around Jadraque was quite large. It stretched over about 713 square kilometers. This area was part of the Henares river basin. It was divided into smaller sections called sexmos, which helped manage the land.
