Jainendra Kumar (born January 2, 1905 – died December 24, 1988) was a very important Indian writer. He wrote many stories and novels in the Hindi language. Some of his famous books include Sunita and Tyagapatra. He was honored with the Padma Bhushan in 1971, which is one of India's highest awards for citizens. He also received the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1966 for his short novel Muktibodh. Later, in 1979, he received the Sahitya Akademi Fellowship, which is the highest honor from the Sahitya Akademi.
