Jake Dylan Wood (born on July 12, 1972) is a British actor. He is famous for playing Max Branning in the popular BBC TV show EastEnders. You might also know his voice as the GEICO gecko in American TV ads.

Jake has appeared in many other TV series, including Only Fools and Horses and Red Dwarf. In 2014, he showed off his dance moves on Strictly Come Dancing. He also co-hosts a boxing podcast called Pound for Pound.

Early Life and Training

Jake Wood was born in Westminster, London. His father is English and his mother is French. He went to City of London Academy Highbury Grove for school.

Jake trained to be an actor at the Anna Scher Drama School. This famous drama school is located in Islington, North London.

Acting Career Highlights

Jake Wood started his acting career in 1984. His very first role was in a TV series called The Gentle Touch. Since then, he has been in many different TV shows.

Some of his early TV appearances include Minder, Press Gang, and The Bill. He also appeared in films like Flesh and Blood (1985) and The Illusionist (2006).

Famous TV Roles

In 1989, Jake appeared in the classic comedy Only Fools and Horses. He played an assistant to Rodney Trotter in an episode called The Jolly Boys' Outing. Later, he played a prison inmate named Kill Crazy in the 8th series of Red Dwarf.

Jake is widely known for his role as Max Branning in EastEnders. He first played a small character named Jackson in the show in 1990. He then returned as Max Branning in June 2006 and stayed until February 2021.

Dancing and Podcasts

In 2014, Jake took part in the 12th series of Strictly Come Dancing. He was partnered with professional dancer Janette Manrara. They danced their way all the way to the semi-final of the competition!

In 2015, Jake took a break from EastEnders for a year. He said he felt it was time to give Max a break. He returned to the show the following year. In 2018, Jake started co-hosting a boxing podcast called Pound for Pound with Spencer Oliver.

In September 2020, it was announced that Jake would be leaving EastEnders for good. His final episode aired on February 19, 2021, after fifteen years on the show.

Personal Life

Jake Wood is a big fan of the football team Arsenal. In 2007, he took part in the Great North Run, which is a famous half marathon.

He lives in Hertfordshire with his wife, Alison. They got married in 2001 and have two children together. In 2019, Jake ran the London Marathon with some of his EastEnders co-stars. They did this to support a Dementia campaign, honoring the late actress Barbara Windsor.
