Early Soccer Days
Playing for Youth Teams
Jalen grew up near Washington, D.C. He started playing soccer for a team called Bethesda SC. Later, he joined the D.C. United Academy, which is a special training program for young players. He played there for two years.
College Soccer Experience
Instead of going straight to professional soccer, Jalen decided to play college soccer. He earned a scholarship to Wake Forest University. He played for the Wake Forest Demon Deacons men's soccer team for two years. In 2013, he was recognized as one of the best players in his conference.
Professional Soccer Career
Starting with D.C. United
On January 6, 2014, Jalen signed a special "homegrown" contract with D.C. United, a team in Major League Soccer (MLS). This type of contract is for players who grew up in the team's youth academy.
Loans to Other Teams
- Richmond Kickers (2014)
In March 2014, D.C. United sent Jalen on loan to the Richmond Kickers. This meant he would play for the Kickers for a while to get more experience. He made his first professional appearance for them on April 26, 2014.
- Arizona United (2014)
After a short time with Richmond, Jalen was loaned to Arizona United SC. He played in 14 games for this team.
- Richmond Kickers (2015-2017)
Jalen was loaned to the Richmond Kickers again for the 2015 season. On March 28, 2015, he scored his first professional goal. This happened during a game that ended in a 2-2 tie.
Playing for D.C. United's Main Team
Jalen made his debut for D.C. United's main team on June 19, 2016. He came into the game as a substitute. In his next game, he started for the first time in MLS. He played very well, helping his team keep the other team from scoring. Fans and teammates praised his strong performance.
Moving to New Clubs
Jalen's contract with D.C. United ended after the 2019 season.
