Jamaine Jones is a talented Australian rules footballer. He played for two teams in the Australian Football League (AFL). These teams were the Geelong Cats and the West Coast Eagles.
Jamaine played his first AFL game in 2018. It was for Geelong against the Carlton Blues. He even scored a goal with his very first kick!
Jamaine's Early Life and Football Journey
Jamaine Jones was born in a town called Broken Hill. He grew up for a time in Mildura. Jamaine is a Barkindji man, which means he belongs to an Aboriginal Australian group.
When he was 10 years old, Jamaine was adopted by Sue Lovett. He then moved to Geelong, where he started playing football for a local club in Belmont. Later, he moved to Heywood. In 2015, when he was just 16, he helped his local Heywood team win a championship!
Jamaine went to Heywood District Secondary College. After that, he played for the North Ballarat Rebels. At first, Jamaine said he "didn't take footy too seriously." Someone even told him he "wasn't going to make it." But this made him work even harder in his second year.
How Jamaine Joined the AFL
A scout from Geelong, Stephen Wells, noticed Jamaine. This happened after Jamaine played a fantastic game in an inter-league match.
Geelong chose Jamaine with their last pick in the 2017 AFL rookie draft. He was pick number 48. The coach, Chris Scott, said it was a "speculative" pick. This means they weren't sure how he would turn out.
Jamaine played well in practice games before the 2018 season. He also played strongly in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Because of his good form, he was chosen to play for Geelong's main team.
Jamaine's AFL Career
Jamaine played for the Geelong Cats from 2017 to 2019. After the 2019 season, Geelong decided not to keep him on their team.
However, in March 2020, the West Coast Eagles signed him. He joined their team during a special selection period. Jamaine played for the West Coast Eagles for five seasons. He played 59 games for them.
At the end of the 2024 AFL season, Jamaine Jones was delisted by West Coast. This means he finished his time as a professional AFL player.
