Jumaine Lanard Jones (born February 10, 1979) is a former professional basketball player from the United States. He played in the NBA from 1999 to 2007. Jumaine was known for playing as a small forward and power forward. He was drafted into the NBA after playing college basketball at the University of Georgia.

Early Basketball Days

Jumaine Jones grew up in Cocoa, Florida. He later moved to Camilla, Georgia, where he became known as the "Thrilla From Camilla." In high school, he was a star player. As a senior in 1997, he was named a 2nd Team Parade All-American. He averaged an amazing 32.8 points, 13.5 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 2.6 blocks per game.

College Career at Georgia

After high school, Jumaine played for two great seasons at the University of Georgia. In his first year (1997–98), he was named SEC Co-Freshman of the Year. He led his team in scoring with 14.7 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.

In his second year (1998–99), Jumaine continued to shine. He led the SEC in scoring, averaging 18.8 points and 9.5 rebounds. He was also the first sophomore at his school since 1981 to score 1,000 points. In 1998, he played for the U.S. team at the 1998 Goodwill Games. He started all five games alongside future NBA stars like Elton Brand and Wally Szczerbiak.

Professional Basketball Journey

Playing in the NBA

Jumaine Jones decided to enter the 1999 NBA draft. He was picked 27th overall by the Atlanta Hawks. However, he was quickly traded to the Philadelphia 76ers, where he played for two years.

A cool fact from his time with the 76ers: on December 30, 1999, he scored the very last basket of the 1990s!

In 2001, the 76ers made it to the 2001 NBA Finals. Jumaine became a starter during the playoffs when another player got injured. The 76ers played against the Los Angeles Lakers in the Finals, but the Lakers won. One of Jumaine's best playoff games was in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. He scored 16 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 31 minutes.

After the 76ers, Jumaine played for several other NBA teams. He spent two years with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Then he was traded to the Boston Celtics, but an injury limited his playing time there. In 2004, he joined the Los Angeles Lakers. He also played for the Charlotte Bobcats in 2005 and the Phoenix Suns in 2006.

Playing Around the World

After his time in the NBA, Jumaine Jones played basketball in many different countries. In 2007, he signed with Basket Napoli in Italy. He played very well there, averaging 17.9 points and 8.4 rebounds per game.

He also played for teams in other countries:
