Jamboree was a fun British TV show for children. It aired on CITV from 1998 to 2001. The show was made by Floella Benjamin Productions and XL Entertainment. It was created especially for younger kids, like preschoolers.

About Jamboree: A Fun Learning Show

Each episode of Jamboree started with the host, Floella Benjamin. She would introduce some special characters called the "Bopkins". You would see the Bopkins making their beds. Then, they would head over to a personal computer.

One of the Bopkins would put a CD into the computer's disc drive. They would then take turns choosing an icon on the screen. After choosing, a short video segment would play. Every episode of Jamboree began and ended with a segment called "Floella's house". The show had 4 seasons and a total of 58 episodes.

Meet the Characters

Jamboree featured four main characters who were part of the Bopkin family. They helped make the show exciting and educational.

The characters were:

  • Bizza Bopkin
  • Billy Bopkin
  • Betty Bopkin (played by Sammy Davis)
  • Baby Bopkin (played by Warwick Davis)

Fun Segments of Jamboree

Each episode of Jamboree was made up of different short segments. These segments helped children learn and have fun.

Floella's House

This was a live-action part of the show. It appeared at the beginning and end of every episode. In "Floella's house", Floella Benjamin would play games. She also sang songs with a group of children in her garden. At the end of each episode, she would say a special goodbye phrase. Her catchphrase was: "Until next time from them and me ... It's goodbye from Jamboree".

Meme and Scruff

This segment featured two friends, a dog and a monkey. Their adventures were shown using stop-motion animation. Stop motion is a way of making animated films. You take a picture, move the characters a tiny bit, then take another picture. When you play the pictures fast, it looks like they are moving!

Playtime

"Playtime" was another live-action segment. It showed children playing different games. A narrator would describe what the children were doing. This helped viewers understand the games.

Storytime

In "Storytime", classic stories were acted out. The actors did not speak. Instead, they used lots of movement to tell the story. Often, Floella Benjamin herself would star in these acted-out tales. A narrator would tell the story as it unfolded.

Video Fun

"Video fun" was a live-action video clip. These clips were designed to be educational. They showed different things and helped kids learn about the world around them.
