James Alexander Stevens was a famous American football coach. He helped build a super successful football team at Prairie View A&M University. People called it a "dynasty" because they won so much! Later, he coached at North Carolina Central University, which was then known as North Carolina College at Durham.

Early Life and Education
James Stevens grew up in St. Louis, Missouri. He went to college at Kansas State Teachers College, which is now called Emporia State University. He also earned a master's degree from the University of Southern California (USC).
Coaching Career Highlights
Building a Dynasty at Prairie View A&M
Coach Stevens became the head football coach at Prairie View A&M University in Texas in 1949. He led the team for three seasons, until 1951. During his time there, the team had an amazing record of 24 wins and only 7 losses. He helped create a very strong football program. In 1951, his team won the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) championship!
Coaching at North Carolina College
In 1965, Coach Stevens became the head football coach at North Carolina College at Durham. This school is now known as North Carolina Central University. He coached there for three seasons, from 1965 to 1967. His record at North Carolina College was 10 wins, 15 losses, and 2 ties.
Personal Life
James Stevens was married to Jocelyn Cain, who passed away in 1980. They had two sons together.
