James Cochrane (born September 15, 1852 – died May 28, 1905) was an important person in Canadian history. He was a successful construction builder and a politician. He is best known for serving as the Mayor of Montreal, Quebec, from 1902 to 1904.

Besides his work in construction, James Cochrane was also a soldier. In 1885, he was part of the Canadian forces. They were sent to fight in the North-West Rebellion. This was a conflict in western Canada.
His Time as Mayor of Montreal
James Cochrane served as the 26th Mayor of Montreal. He held this important position from 1902 to 1904. As mayor, he was in charge of the city's government. He helped make decisions for the people of Montreal.
