James Rashad Coleman is an American politician from Colorado. He currently serves as a member of the Colorado Senate, representing the 33rd district. He also holds an important leadership role as the president pro tempore of the Colorado Senate.
Before joining the State Senate, he was a member of the Colorado House of Representatives for the 7th district.

James Coleman grew up in Park Hill, Denver. He attended Oral Roberts University, where he earned a degree in psychology. He also studied business administration.
His Political Journey
James Coleman began his political career when he was elected to the Colorado House of Representatives in 2016. He won the Democratic primary election with more than 40% of the votes. In the main election, he ran without any opponents.
While serving in the House, Coleman worked on important committees. These included the Business Affairs & Labor Committee and the House Local Government Committee. These committees help make decisions about businesses and local communities.
In 2019, Coleman decided to run for a seat in the Colorado Senate. He aimed to represent the 33rd district. He ran unopposed in the Democratic primary election. In the general election, he won against Jerry Burton. He officially started his role in the Senate on January 13, 2021.
