Playing Career Highlights
James Collins went to Florida State University for college. After his time there, he was chosen by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 1997 NBA draft. He was the 36th player picked overall.
NBA Experience
Collins played one season in the NBA for the Los Angeles Clippers. This was during the 1997–98 basketball year. The Clippers got him from the 76ers in a trade.
He was also briefly signed by other NBA teams, like the Phoenix Suns in 1999, the Washington Wizards in 1999, and the Memphis Grizzlies in 2001. However, he did not play in any NBA games for these teams.
Playing in Other Leagues
Outside the NBA, Collins played for the Grand Rapids Hoops. This team was part of the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) from 2000 to 2002. In 2002, he was recognized as one of the best players in the league. He earned a spot on the All-CBA First Team.
Before joining Fabriano, he played basketball in other countries. He played in Spain for Pinturas Bruguer. He also played in Italy for several teams. These included Air Avellino (2002–2003) and Vertical Vision Cantù (2006) in Italy's top league, Serie A. He also played in Italy's second league, Serie A2, for Eurorida Scafati (2003–2004) and Cimberio Novara (2004–2006).
Life After Playing
After his professional playing career, James Collins became a coach. He is currently the Head Boys Basketball Coach at Andrew Jackson High School. This school is located in his hometown of Jacksonville, Florida.
