In 1954, he moved to the newspaper's Washington Bureau. He reported on several U.S. Presidents. These included Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, and Richard Nixon. Deakin covered the White House from 1958 to 1980.
Later Career
James Deakin retired from The Post-Dispatch in 1981. After that, he taught journalism classes. He taught at George Washington University until 1987.
