James Douglas married Margaret Ogilvy. She was the daughter of Walter Lord Ogilvy of Deskford.

James and Margaret had a daughter named Mary Douglas. Mary was born in October 1601, shortly after her father died. She later became the Countess of Buchan. Mary married James Erskine. He was a son of the Earl of Mar and Marie Stewart, Countess of Mar.

The main homes linked to the Earls of Buchan were Auchterhouse and Banff Castle. These castles were important parts of their family's history and power.

What Happened After He Died?

James Douglas passed away in August 1601. After his death, the title of Earl of Buchan and the castle of Auchterhouse were meant to go to Prince Charles. This was a gift from the king.
