Douglas started his acting career with a big role in 1964. He joined the cast of the TV show Peyton Place. On this show, he played the character Steven Cord. He continued in this role until the series ended in 1969.
After Peyton Place, he mostly worked on daytime TV shows. He played Elliott Carrington on Another World from 1972 to 1974. Later, he moved to As the World Turns. He also appeared on The Edge of Night in 1984. From 1985 to 1987, he played Dr. Marcus Polk on One Life to Live.
