James David Gailliard (born January 9, 1965) is an American pastor and politician. He is the leader of Word Tabernacle Church in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. He was also a member of the North Carolina House of Representatives for the Democratic Party.
Mr. Gailliard represented the 25th district, which includes most of Nash County, from 2019 to 2023. He studied at Morehouse College and St. Joseph's University.

Political Career
Becoming a Representative
James Gailliard won the election for House District 25 in November 2018. This was a big moment because he became the first African-American to hold this seat. He received 51% of the votes, while his main opponent, John Check, received 45%.
Reelection and Later
In 2020, Mr. Gailliard ran for reelection and won again. He continued to represent his district. However, in the November 2022 election, he was defeated by Allen Chesser, a Republican. Mr. Chesser received 52% of the votes, while Mr. Gailliard received 44%.
