James Stuart Gordon, also known as Baron Gordon of Strathblane, was an important Scottish businessman and a member of the House of Lords. He was born on May 17, 1936, and passed away on March 31, 2020. He was recognized for his work with an award called the CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire).

Early Life and Education
James Stuart Gordon was the son of James and Elsie Gordon. He went to school at St Aloysius' College, Glasgow. Later, he studied Classics at the University of Glasgow and earned a degree in 1958.
A Career in Business and Media
James Gordon started his career in television. He worked as a political editor for STV from 1965 to 1973. After that, he became the managing director of Radio Clyde, a popular radio station, from 1973 to 1996.
He held many important roles in the business world:
- He was the Chief Executive of Scottish Radio Holdings from 1991 to 1996.
- He then became the Chairman of Scottish Radio Holdings from 1996 to 2005.
- He was also the Vice-Chairman of Melody Radio from 1991 to 1997.
- From 1998 to 2001, he was the Chairman of the Scottish Tourist Board, helping to promote tourism in Scotland.
- He was a director at Johnston Press plc starting in 1996.
- He also led Radio Audience Research (RAJAR) as its Chairman from 2003.
James Gordon also served on several important boards and committees:
- He was a member of the Scottish Development Agency from 1981 to 1990.
- He chaired the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre from 1983 to 1989.
- He was part of the court at the University of Glasgow from 1984 to 1997.
- He joined the British Tourist Authority board from 1998 to 2001.
Political and Public Service
In 1964, James Gordon ran for election in East Renfrewshire as a candidate for the Labour Party.
He also contributed to public service in other ways:
- He was a Trustee of the National Galleries of Scotland from 1998 to 2001.
- He was a Trustee of the John Smith Memorial Trust starting in 1995.

In 1997, James Gordon was given the special title of Baron Gordon of Strathblane, which made him a Life Peer in the House of Lords. This means he became a member of the UK Parliament for life.

James Gordon married Margaret Anne Stevenson in 1971. They had three children together: a daughter and two sons.
He passed away on March 31, 2020, in Glasgow after getting COVID-19. The Radio Academy of Scotland honored him by calling him the 'Father of Scottish radio' because of his huge impact on radio in Scotland.
