James Haven (born James Haven Voight; May 11, 1973) is an American actor and producer. He is known for his work in films and for being the son of actors Jon Voight and Marcheline Bertrand. He is also the older brother of famous actress Angelina Jolie.
Early Life and Education
James Haven was born in Los Angeles, California, on May 11, 1973. His parents, Jon Voight and Marcheline Bertrand, were both actors. He has a younger sister, Angelina Jolie, who is also a well-known actress. His uncles include the singer-songwriter Chip Taylor and the geologist Barry Voight.
After his parents separated in 1976, James and his sister were raised by their mother. They grew up in Palisades, New York, and later moved back to Los Angeles when James was 13. He attended Beverly Hills High School. After high school, he went to the USC School of Cinema-Television. While studying there, he won a special award called the George Lucas Award for a student film he directed. His sister, Angelina, even starred in that film!
Acting and Producing Career
James Haven started his acting career in 1998. He had small roles in a few movies that also starred his sister, Angelina Jolie. These films include Gia (1998), Hell's Kitchen (1998), and Original Sin (2001). He also appeared in Monster's Ball (2001), which starred his sister's husband at the time, Billy Bob Thornton. Later, he appeared in TV shows like CSI: Crime Scene Investigation in 2004 and The Game in 2007.
Beyond acting, James also worked as a producer. In 2005, he was an executive producer for the documentary film Trudell. This film tells the story of Santee Sioux musician and activist John Trudell. Trudell was shown at important film festivals like the Sundance Film Festival and the Tribeca Film Festival. It even won an award at the Seattle International Film Festival. In 2011, he was also an executive producer for a short comedy film called That's Our Mary.
Since 2006, James Haven has been a director on the board of Artivist. This is a film festival in Los Angeles that focuses on movies about important topics like human rights, animal rights, and environmental issues.
James Haven stopped acting in 2013. He also directed a short film called Court of Conscience (2015), which featured his father, Jon Voight.
Personal Life
James Haven was raised Catholic and became a born-again Christian in 2009. After his mother, Marcheline Bertrand, passed away in 2007, James became closer with his father, Jon Voight, again.
