Life of James I
James was born in the city of Zaragoza in 1321. His older brother, Peter IV of Aragon, became the King of Aragon after their father. James, however, inherited his mother's title and became the Count of Urgell.
Family Life
In 1336, James married Cecilia de Comminges in Catalonia. Cecilia was born in 1321 and lived until 1381. Her father was Bernard VIII, Count of Comminges.
James and Cecilia had two children together. Their son, Peter II, Count of Urgell, later became the 19th Count of Urgell. They also had a daughter named Isabel.
His Death
James I passed away on November 15, 1347. He was in Barcelona at the time. It is thought that he may have died under suspicious circumstances, possibly due to poisoning. Some people believed his brother, King Peter, was involved.
