James Christopher Lewis Jr., born on December 19, 1978, is a former American football player. He played as a defensive back in college for the University of Miami. Later, he was chosen by the Indianapolis Colts in the 2002 NFL draft.

Playing in College

James Lewis played high school football in Piscataway, New Jersey. After high school, he went on to play college football for the University of Miami. He played there for four years, from 1998 to 2001.

In his last game as a Hurricane, the 2002 Rose Bowl, Miami played against Nebraska. During the game, James Lewis made an amazing play. He intercepted a pass from Nebraska's quarterback, Eric Crouch. Eric Crouch had won the Heisman Trophy, which is a big award for the best college football player.

James Lewis ran 42 yards with the intercepted ball. This play, called a "pick six," scored a touchdown for Miami. It helped Miami take a 20–0 lead. Miami won the game 37–14. After this big win, the Miami team was named the national champions for college football.

Professional Career

After finishing college, James Lewis was picked by the Indianapolis Colts. This happened in the sixth round of the 2002 NFL draft. He was the 183rd player chosen overall.

Even though the Colts signed him, James Lewis did not make their final team roster. He later played for other teams like the Cleveland Browns and Detroit Lions. He also played for teams in NFL Europe, such as the Barcelona Dragons and Scottish Claymores.
