Jamesan is a small, quiet place in Fresno County, California. It's known as an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's managed by the larger county.

Jamesan is located in the beautiful state of California, about 8 miles (13 km) west of a town called Kerman. It sits at an elevation of 177 feet (54 meters) above sea level. This community is also found along the historic Southern Pacific Railroad line, which played a big part in connecting places across the United States.

The Story Behind the Name

Jamesan has had a few different names over the years! When it first started, it was called Jamison. Later, the name changed to Jameson before finally becoming Jamesan.

A Post Office and a Special Person

The community's first post office opened its doors in 1893, when it was still known as Jamison. The name was officially changed to Jameson in 1911. However, the post office didn't stay open for long and closed just one year later, in 1912. The name "Jamesan" (and its earlier versions) was chosen to honor a person named J.G. James. He was a very important figure in the community because he served as its very first postmaster.
