Jane "Jean" Gray (born Cant; 1 December 1901 – 7 June 2014) was an amazing Scottish-Australian woman. She lived to be 112 years old! For almost two years, from August 2012 to June 2014, she was the oldest living person in Australia.
Jane Gray's Long Life
Jane Gray was born in a small town called Newtyle in Angus, Scotland. This was way back in 1901. Imagine all the history she saw!
Her Early Years
When she was a young woman, Jane met her future husband, Jock Gray. They went on a blind date in 1922. Five years later, in 1927, they got married.
Life in Australia
After they married, Jane and Jock moved to Sydney, Australia. They started a new life there. They even ran a poultry farm, which means they raised chickens.
Jane and Jock were married for a very long time. Their marriage lasted for 60 years! Jock passed away in 1987.
They had two children together. As their family grew, they were blessed with nine grandchildren. Then came 14 great-grandchildren. And finally, they had two great-great-grandchildren! That's a lot of family.
Her Later Years
In 2004, Jane's daughter began taking care of her. They lived together in Smithfield, New South Wales. Later, in December 2013, Jane moved into a nursing home.
Jane Gray passed away peacefully on 7 June 2014. She was 112 years old when she died from natural causes. She lived a truly remarkable and long life.
