Jane Florence Benitez de Leon (born November 22, 1998) is a talented Filipino actress, model, and someone who helps others. She started her acting journey in 2015 after joining Star Magic. Jane first appeared in small movie roles and TV shows. Later, she got bigger parts in series like Halik (2018) and Ang Probinsyano (2021).

Jane became very famous for playing the main character in the TV series Mars Ravelo's Darna (2022). She has won an Ima Wa Ima Asian Film Festival Award. She was also nominated for a Metro Manila Film Festival Award and two PMPC Star Awards for Television.

Jane's Early Life and Family

Jane Florence Benitez de Leon was born on November 22, 1998. Her birthplace was San Pedro, Laguna, Philippines. Her mother, Maricor Benitez-De Leon, was a housewife. Her father, Ruel Florencio de Leon, was a businessman. Jane is the youngest in her family and has an older brother named Francis.

Her family faced tough times when her father lost his job. This made Jane want to audition for modeling and acting jobs. She wanted to help her family. Jane often went to auditions in Metro Manila at night with her mom. Her father did not want her to be an actress at first. Before acting, Jane's mother encouraged her to join beauty pageants.

Jane's father had four other children from earlier relationships. Jane went to Sampaguita Village Elementary School and San Roque Elementary School. She also attended Sampaguita Village National High School. In 2016, her father passed away from lung cancer. After this, Jane decided to fully focus on her career in show business.

Jane's Acting Career Journey

Starting Out: 2013-2017

Jane began her career by joining pageants and modeling contests. In 2013, she was a semi-finalist in Teen Supermodel Philippines. The next year, Jane signed with Glamoure Talent Agency Inc. She got her first TV commercial for the brand Quake Overload. Talent manager Tyrone Escalante discovered her. He encouraged her to try acting. She then started acting workshops with Star Magic.

In 2015, Jane started playing small roles in movies. Her first movie appearance was in Just The Way You Are. She also had a supporting role in the movie Ex with Benefits. Jane tried out for the TV show Eat Bulaga! and the group Now United. She did not get these roles.

In 2016, Jane became a member of the girl group GirlTrends. This group was part of the TV show It's Showtime. She also made her TV show debut in a Wansapanataym episode called "Tikboyong". She played the love interest of McCoy de Leon's character. Jane also appeared in drama shows like Maalaala Mo Kaya and Ipaglaban Mo!. In 2017, Jane was cast in the action fantasy series La Luna Sangre. She also appeared in two movies that year. These were the film The Debutantes and Jose Bartolome: Guro.

Becoming Well-Known: 2018-2022

The year 2018 was very good for Jane. She played the strong sister of Jericho Rosales' character in the TV series Halik. She also had a supporting role in the movie Walwal. In 2019, she had a small role in the film The Heiress.

After Liza Soberano could not play Darna anymore, Jane de Leon was chosen for the main role in July 2019. Director Olivia Lamasan said that all the ABS-CBN bosses and Darna director Jerrold Tarog agreed on Jane. Tarog said Jane impressed him because she was an "instinctive actress." However, in August 2020, the movie project was put on hold because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, a Darna TV series was made, with Jane still playing the lead.

While the Darna project was on hold, Jane joined the cast of Ang Probinsyano in 2021. She played agent Natalia Mante. After seven months, she left the show to get ready for her Darna role. She did intense training and workouts for the fight scenes. She also practiced her voice for Darna's famous yell. In August 2022, Darna finally aired on TV. Critics and viewers praised her performance. Ryan Oquiza of Rappler said her acting was "sincere and genuine." Director Chito S. Roño was also impressed by Jane's performance.

Newer Projects: 2023-Present

In 2023, Jane starred in the horror film Shake, Rattle & Roll Extreme. She acted alongside Iza Calzado and Jane Oineza. The movie was released earlier than planned. Even though the movie got mixed reviews, Jane's acting was highly praised. Januar Junior Aguja of The Philippine Star said Jane was the best part of the "Rage" episode. He noted her character had "the most interesting character development." Jane is also set to work with Janella Salvador again in the upcoming film How to Be a Good Wife.

Jane's Other Activities

Helping Others (Philanthropy)

In September 2019, Jane de Leon won the Belo Beauty Special Award at the ABS-CBN Ball. She decided to give all the money from the award to Bantay Bata 163. This is a program that helps children who are in need or at risk. Jane said it is important to be an example and help these children. She believes this can help them achieve their dreams for the future. In the same year, Jane also attended the Red Charity Gala. This event raises money for the Philippine Red Cross. This organization helps people in need and is part of a worldwide movement.

Awards and Recognitions

Since she started her career in the mid-2010s, Jane de Leon has received many awards and nominations. She won the Best Actress award at the Ima Wa Ima Asian Film Festival in Japan. This was for her role in the horror film Shake, Rattle & Roll Extreme. She was nominated twice for a Star Award for Best Single Performance by an Actress. These nominations were for her roles in the drama show Maalaala Mo Kaya in the episodes Medal and Doctor Hero (both in 2020). For her acting in the horror film Strange Frequencies: Taiwan Killer Hospital, she was nominated for Best Actress at the Metro Manila Film Festival.
