About Janeen Webb
Janeen Webb was born Janeen Pemberton on August 29, 1951, in Charlestown, New South Wales, Australia. She grew up in Charlestown and went to local schools. Later, she studied at the University of Newcastle, Australia and earned a special degree in literature in 1983. For many years, she taught literature at a university in Melbourne, Victoria.
Her Work as an Editor
From 1987 to 1991, Janeen Webb helped edit a magazine called Australian Science Fiction Review. She also advises for Science Fiction Studies. She is perhaps most famous for editing a big collection of Australian science fiction and fantasy stories called Dreaming Down-Under. She edited this book with her husband, Jack Dann. This book won them a World Fantasy Award and a Ditmar Award in 1999.
Other Books and Projects
Janeen Webb has also written and edited other books with her friend, Andrew Enstice. These include Aliens & Savages: Fiction, Politics and Prejudice (1998) and The Fantastic Self (1999), which is a collection of essays about fantasy and science fiction. She also helped create a special edition of an old science fiction novel from 1895 called The Yellow Wave (2003).
Janeen Webb has been working on a series of novels for young adults called The Sinbad Chronicles. The first two books in this series are Sailing to Atlantis (2001) and The Silken Road to Samarkand (2003).
In 1995, she married Jack Dann, who is an American science fiction author. They live together near Foster in rural Victoria.
