Janet Mbugua (born on January 11, 1984) is a well-known Kenyan media personality, news anchor, and actress. She became famous for her work as a news anchor at KTN early in her career. Later, she worked for Citizen TV for many years, where she was a main anchor for prime time news alongside Hussein Mohammed. After leaving the media industry, she took on a new role with the Kenya Red Cross Humanitarian Society. Janet is also very interested in film and arts. She played the main character in the TV series Rush.

Early Life and Education

Janet Mbugua was born on January 11, 1984, in Mombasa, Kenya, where she also grew up. She has a twin brother named Timothy Mbugua.

For her high school education, Janet attended Brookhouse High School. After that, she went to the United States International University (USIU).

After gaining some work experience, she decided to continue her studies. She joined the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology in Malaysia to earn her degree in Mass Communication.

Later, she completed her MBA (Master of Business Administration) in Global Business Management at the Swiss Management Academy in Nairobi, Kenya.

Career Highlights

Janet Mbugua started her career in 2004 when she was 19 years old. Her first job was at 98.4 Capital FM. In 2009, she moved to Johannesburg, South Africa, where she worked for e.tv. There, she was a news anchor, reporter, and producer for a show called Africa 360, which covered current events across Africa.

More recently, she was a popular news anchor at Citizen TV. She hosted shows like Monday Special and The Big Question.

In 2014, Janet also showed her acting talent in a sitcom called Rush. She played the lead role of Pendo Adama, who was the owner and editor-in-chief of Rush Magazine.

In July 2017, she started working as a consultant for The Hive. This is a US-based organization that aims to promote gender equality in Kenya and other African countries. In 2019, she created and hosted a TV show called Here And Now on NTV. This show focused on important social, economic, and political issues affecting young people.

Helping Others: Humanitarian Work

Janet Mbugua is the founder and director of Media Avenue Limited. This company helps people with things like public speaking, moderating events, and being a Master of Ceremonies (Emceeing).

She is also very passionate about helping young girls and women. She has strongly supported the Inua Dada campaign. This campaign is even supported by Kenya's first lady, Margaret Kenyatta. The goal of Inua Dada is to empower young females.

On October 8, 2021, Janet launched The Inua Dada Centre. This center is located in the Korogocho slum in Nairobi. It provides a safe place where young people can get information and learn about reproductive health and their rights.

Personal Life

Janet Mbugua is married to Edward Ndichu. They have two sons together. Their first son, Ethan Huru Ndichu, was born in October 2015. Their second son is named Mali Ndichu.

In 2019, Janet released her first book, titled ‘My First Time’. This book is a collection of short stories from women, girls, and men. The stories share their first experiences with menstruation, helping to break down taboos and encourage open conversations about this natural process.
