Jared Christopher Martin (born December 21, 1941 – died May 24, 2017) was an American actor who starred in movies and TV shows. He was most famous for playing Steven "Dusty" Farlow in the TV series Dallas. He also had important roles in two science fiction TV shows: The Fantastic Journey and War of the Worlds.

Early Life and Education
Jared Martin was born in Manhattan, New York. His father, Charles Elmer Martin, was a well-known artist and cartoonist for The New Yorker magazine. His mother, Florence Taylor, was also an artist.
Jared started acting when he was just ten years old. He joined a local children's theater group. After finishing school at the Putney School, he went to Columbia University. There, he was roommates with future famous director Brian De Palma. During a summer, he trained with Joseph Papp's Shakespeare in the Park program, which helps actors learn about theater.
After college, Jared worked for a few years at The New York Times newspaper. He was a copy boy and wrote short reviews for books in the Sunday edition.
Acting Career Highlights
Jared Martin left his newspaper job to focus on acting. He joined a theater company in Cape May, New Jersey, and later worked with Boston Classical Repertory. He also rejoined Joseph Papp at his new Public Theater in Manhattan.
In 1965, Jared helped start a film and stage company called Group 6 Productions. He even directed a play called A Night on the Town. In 1966, he played the main character in his former roommate Brian De Palma's first movie, Murder à la Mod.
Television Appearances
From the early 1970s to the early 1990s, Jared Martin was often seen on television. He had guest roles in many popular TV shows. These included The Partridge Family, The Six Million Dollar Man, Wonder Woman, CHiPs, Knight Rider, Magnum, P.I., and Columbo.
Jared Martin also had regular roles in several TV series. He was a main character in the science fiction show The Fantastic Journey (1977), where he played Varian. He also appeared in a few episodes of How the West Was Won as Frank Grayson.
His most famous role was Steven "Dusty" Farlow in the prime-time soap opera Dallas. He appeared on the show from 1979 until it ended in 1991. While taking a break from Dallas, Jared studied acting with the famous teacher Lee Strasberg.
Jared's last regular TV role was as Dr. Harrison Blackwood in War of the Worlds. This show ran for two seasons starting in 1988.
Stage and Film Work
Besides TV, Jared Martin continued to act in plays that were not on Broadway. He also made a film that was not released but helped him get noticed by casting directors. He spent time living in both Rome, Italy, and New York.
He performed in the Broadway play Torch Song Trilogy. In 1988, he moved to Toronto, Canada, to star in War of the Worlds. After that show finished in 1990, he spent about 18 months traveling, writing, and working on photography.
In 1994, Jared directed a documentary-style film called In Deeper. This film celebrated local citizens who helped fight crime in Philadelphia. Jared also helped start an independent film company called Lost Dog Productions. This company made films for groups that help people and promote culture. He also hosted a talk show called Philly Live. From 2004 to 2007, he taught acting and directing at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia.

Death
