Jarrod Atkinson's Football Journey
Jarrod Atkinson was a bit older than most new players when he joined Essendon. He was 23 years old when the team chose him in the 2007 rookie draft. Before that, he played as a defender for the Bendigo Bombers in the VFL. He played very well there, which caught the eye of the Essendon selectors.
Starting Strong
Jarrod showed a lot of promise when he started the 2008 season. He played in the pre-season cup, where his size and speed were impressive. People thought he could do very well at the highest level of the sport. Jarrod also broke the club's sprint record for 20 meters. He ran it in just 2.73 seconds! This record was previously held by other fast players like Alwyn Davey.
Playing for Essendon
Because of his great efforts, Jarrod was moved to the main senior team list in April 2008. This happened after another player, Scott Lucas, was injured for a long time. Jarrod played his very first game for Essendon in Round 7. He debuted alongside two other new players, Darcy Daniher and David Myers. Their first game was against Port Adelaide at the Docklands stadium. He played five senior games in his first year.
He continued to play for Essendon in the following years. He played five more games in 2009. In 2010, he played seven games. After the 2010 season, Jarrod was removed from the team's list of players.
