Early Life and Education
Jarvis Allen Johnson was born on May 5, 1992, in Gainesville, Florida. He went to Eastside High School from 2006 to 2010. He earned a special diploma called an International Baccalaureate.
After high school, he studied at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He graduated on August 2, 2014. He earned a high honors degree in computer science. Jarvis also has a younger brother. Before becoming a full-time YouTuber, he worked at several companies. These included Google, Yelp, and Patreon.
YouTube Career
Jarvis Johnson started his YouTube channel on October 12, 2006. However, he had other jobs before he began uploading videos regularly. He worked as a student and teaching assistant at Georgia Tech. He was also a software developer intern at Radiant Systems. Later, he became a software engineer at Google and Yelp. He also worked as a senior software engineer and manager at Patreon. In 2017, while at Patreon, he met fellow YouTuber Jordan Adika.
From Software to Commentary
Jarvis first posted videos about software engineering. But then he started making commentary videos. He was inspired after watching a video by Drew Gooden. Jarvis liked Gooden's style and decided to try it himself. He eventually left his job at Patreon to focus on YouTube full-time.
In August 2018, more people started watching Jarvis's channel. This happened after another YouTuber, Cody Ko, made a video about 5-Minute Crafts. Jarvis had already talked about this topic in March. His video wasn't getting many views. So, Jarvis changed his video's title to include "5-Minute Crafts." This helped attract more viewers. Jarvis calls this video his "breakout video."
Content and Recognition
Jarvis's channel features many commentary videos. He often talks about software engineering. He also has funny inside jokes, like "Zeffo Overlord of 1-2-3 Go." Another joke is about how "comically large" his computer science degree is.
His channel is also known for critiquing "content farms." These are channels that make lots of low-quality videos. They often use clickbait titles to get views. Jarvis points out how these channels can trick YouTube's system. He focuses on channels like 5-Minute Crafts and Bright Side. These channels sometimes show unsafe or unhelpful "life hacks."
In early 2021, Jarvis Johnson was recognized by Forbes magazine. He was included in their "30 Under 30" list. This list highlights influential people under 30 years old.

In July 2021, Rhett and Link announced something big. Their company, Mythical Entertainment, bought a part of Jarvis's business. This company helps manage his different ways of earning money.
