Jas Pal Singh Badyal, born in 1964, is a brilliant scientist. He is a professor of chemistry at Durham University in England. Since February 2023, he has also been the main science advisor for the Welsh Government.

Jas Pal Badyal's Education
Jas Pal Badyal studied at the University of Cambridge. He earned a degree in Natural Sciences in 1985. Later, in 1988, he completed his PhD. His PhD research focused on how surfaces behave, especially with certain chemicals.
Career and Amazing Discoveries
After finishing his PhD, Professor Badyal worked as a research fellow at Cambridge. In 1989, he became a lecturer at Durham University. He was promoted to a full professor in 1996 and has worked there ever since.
Making Surfaces Special
Professor Badyal is famous for his work on making solid surfaces do special things. He also creates very thin layers of materials called "nanolayers." These layers are super tiny, like a million times smaller than a human hair!

Professor Badyal has invented many new surfaces. These inventions help with real-world problems and new technologies. He studies how these surfaces work at a basic level. He also figures out how to make them on a larger scale.

Fellow of the Royal Society

- In 1993, he won the Edward Harrison Memorial Prize from the Royal Society of Chemistry.

Since February 2023, Professor Badyal has been the Chief Scientific Adviser for Wales. In this important role, he gives scientific advice to the Welsh Government. This helps them make good decisions for the country.
