How Jasper Hill Farm Started and What They Do
The Kehler brothers bought their farm in 1999. It was already known as "the Jasper Hill farm." They started selling their own cheese in 2003.
In 2003, another famous company, Cabot Creamery, asked Jasper Hill to work together. They wanted to age a special cheddar cheese. This cheese became very popular and was called Cabot Clothbound Cheddar. It even won a big award in 2006 for being the "Best of Show" at a cheese competition!
Because of this success, the Kehlers built the Cellars at Jasper Hill. This huge building is 22,000 square feet. It's built right into the side of a hill on their farm. The Cellars opened in 2008.
The Cellars at Jasper Hill ages cheeses made on their farm. They also help other small cheesemakers in Vermont and New Hampshire. The Cellars helps these cheesemakers sell and distribute their products. This makes it easier for smaller cheese companies to share their delicious cheeses. Cheeses from the Cellars are sold all over the United States. Some are even sent to Europe, Canada, and Australia!
Since 2013, Jasper Hill has also taught classes. They teach people how to make cheese. These classes are held with Sterling College.
