Ernesto Javier Chevantón Espinosa (born on August 12, 1980) is a former footballer from Uruguay. He played as a forward, which means he was mainly responsible for scoring goals.
Javier Chevantón was known for being a very energetic player. He was fast and determined on the field. After playing in Spain for some years, he also got a Spanish passport.

Club Career Highlights
Playing for Lecce
Javier Chevantón joined the Italian club US Lecce in the summer of 2001. Even though he scored 12 goals in 27 games, Lecce was moved down to a lower league, Serie B, that season. Chevantón decided to stay with the team.
His decision was very important for Lecce. He scored 18 goals in 30 games, helping the team get promoted straight back to the top league. In the 2003–04 Serie A season, he was the fourth-highest goal scorer with 19 goals. He also became Lecce's all-time top scorer, passing Pedro Pablo Pasculli.
Time at Monaco
In July 2004, Chevantón signed a four-year contract with the French club Monaco. He joined them for about €10 million. Monaco needed new forwards, and Chevantón was expected to be a key player.
However, he faced some challenges with injuries. He was injured in August 2004 and again in January 2005. Despite this, he managed to score 10 league goals that season. Monaco also left the 2004–05 UEFA Champions League in the round of 16.
In the 2005–06 season, Chevantón became a regular starter for Monaco. He had a knee operation in January 2006 but returned to play in February. He finished the season as the team's top scorer in the league with 10 goals.
Joining Sevilla
On August 1, 2006, Chevantón moved to Sevilla, a Spanish club that had just won the 2005–06 UEFA Cup. He signed a five-year contract. He scored four goals for Sevilla in the UEFA Cup.
He also scored his first La Liga goal with a fantastic bicycle kick against Real Madrid in December 2006. This goal helped Sevilla win the game 2–1. Later that season, he scored another goal against Real Madrid from a free kick.
Loan to Atalanta
In November 2009, Chevantón was allowed to try out for the Italian club Atalanta. He joined them on a loan deal in January 2010 and played until the end of the 2009–10 season.
Return to Lecce
On August 23, 2010, Chevantón went back to his former club, US Lecce. His contract with Sevilla had ended earlier.
Playing for Colón de Santa Fe
In July 2011, after his contract with Lecce was not renewed, he joined the Argentinian team Colón de Santa Fe.
Third Spell at Lecce
In the summer of 2012, Chevantón returned to Lecce for a third time. The club was then in a lower division, Lega Pro Prima Divisione.
Queens Park Rangers Experience
On September 25, 2013, Chevantón signed a short-term deal with the English club Queens Park Rangers (QPR). He made his first appearance for QPR on October 5, 2013, coming on as a substitute in a 2–0 win against Barnsley. He was released by QPR in December 2013.
Back in Uruguay with Liverpool
After leaving QPR, Chevantón went back to Uruguay. He signed a contract with Liverpool F.C. (Montevideo).
International Career
Javier Chevantón played for the Uruguay national team. However, he had some disagreements with the coach, Jorge Fossati. This limited his playing time for the national team. For example, he was not included in the final stages of the 2006 World Cup qualification. Uruguay did not qualify for the 2006 World Cup.
After a long time away, Chevantón was called back to the Uruguay squad in September 2008. This was for the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification matches against Argentina and Bolivia. He played against Argentina as a substitute. However, he was not called up again due to his fitness and strong competition from other top Uruguayan forwards.
