Jay Conrad Levinson (born February 10, 1933 – died October 10, 2013) was an American writer who focused on business topics. He is best known for his 1984 book, Guerrilla Marketing.
Jay was born in Detroit and grew up in Chicago. He studied at the University of Colorado. His studies in psychology led him to work in advertising. He even became a Creative Director at Leo Burnett in London. Later, he returned to the U.S. and joined J. Walter Thompson (now called JWT) as a Senior Vice President. Jay also taught about guerrilla marketing for ten years at the University of California in Berkeley.

As an advertising executive, Jay Levinson helped create many famous marketing campaigns. These include well-known characters and slogans like the Marlboro Man, the Pillsbury Doughboy, and Allstate's "good hands." He also worked on United Airlines' “Fly the friendly skies” slogan, the Sears Diehard battery, Morris the Cat, Tony the Tiger, and the Jolly Green Giant.

Jay Levinson started the international Guerrilla Marketing Association. He wrote many books about "guerrilla marketing," which have been translated into many languages. He was the first to use the term "guerrilla marketing." It describes smart, "unconventional" ways to market something when you don't have a lot of money or resources.
His first book, Guerrilla Marketing, came out in 1984. Time magazine even called it one of the top 25 best business books ever! Over 21 million copies have been sold. Jay's ideas about guerrilla marketing have been so important that his books are used in 62 languages. They are also required reading in many MBA programs around the world.
