Jay Harris is a well-known American journalist. He was born on February 22, 1965, in Norfolk, Virginia. Since February 2003, Jay has been a familiar face at ESPN. He is often seen hosting the late-night editions of SportsCenter.
Jay has hosted many different shows during his time at ESPN. These include popular programs like Outside The Lines, NFL Live, and Baseball Tonight. He has also worked on Cold Pizza, First Take, Friday Night Fights, and ESPN Sports Saturday on ABC.
Jay's Early Career
Before joining ESPN, Jay Harris worked in several places. He spent many years as a news anchor at WPGH-TV in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He also gained experience in radio news.
Jay worked for local morning radio news at WAMO-FM. He also had national news experience at American Urban Radio Networks, both in Pittsburgh. Earlier in his career, he did local radio news at WOWI-FM in Norfolk, Virginia.
Awards and Achievements
Jay Harris has received several special honors for his work. He earned a Silver World Medal from the New York Festivals. He also received a Robert L. Vann Award from the Pittsburgh Black Media Federation. Another award he won is the EXCEL Award from the Hampton Roads Black Media Professionals.
Jay was also part of two SportsCenter shows that won Emmy Awards. He graduated from Chapel Hill High School in North Carolina in 1983. In 1987, he graduated from Old Dominion University. He received a Distinguished Alumni Award from his university. Jay was also the main speaker for their graduation ceremonies in 2003 and 2004.

Jay Harris is married to Stephanie Prigmore. They have two children together. He is also a member of the Nu Theta chapter of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity.
On February 22, 2008, during an episode of SportsCenter, something special happened. Basketball legend Bill Walton surprised Jay with a birthday cake. Walton also mentioned that Jay shares his birthday with famous basketball player Julius Erving.
