Jay Harris is a well-known American journalist. He was born on February 22, 1965, in Norfolk, Virginia. Since February 2003, he has worked for ESPN, a popular sports television network. Jay is often seen hosting the late-night editions of SportsCenter, especially the 11 PM and midnight shows on the East Coast. He also sometimes hosts the West Coast SportsCenter from Los Angeles.

During his time at ESPN, Jay Harris has hosted many different sports shows. These include SportsCenter, Outside The Lines, NFL Live, Baseball Tonight, Cold Pizza, First Take, Friday Night Fights, and ESPN Sports Saturday on ABC.

Early Career and Experience

Before joining ESPN, Jay Harris worked in various news roles. For many years, he was a weeknight news anchor at WPGH-TV in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He also gained experience in local morning radio news at WAMO-FM.

Jay also worked in national news for American Urban Radio Networks, which is also based in Pittsburgh. His early radio experience also includes working at WOWI-FM in Norfolk, Virginia.

Awards and Achievements

Jay Harris has received several awards for his work in journalism. These include a Silver World Medal from the New York Festivals. He also earned a Robert L. Vann Award from the Pittsburgh Black Media Federation. Another honor is the EXCEL Award from the Hampton Roads Black Media Professionals.

He was also part of two SportsCenter shows that won Emmy Awards. An Emmy Award is a major award for excellence in television. Jay graduated from Chapel Hill High School in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, in 1983. He then graduated from Old Dominion University in 1987. His university honored him with a Distinguished Alumni Award. He was also the main speaker for the university's graduation ceremonies in 2003 and 2004.

Personal Life

Jay Harris is married to Stephanie Prigmore, and they have two children. He is also a member of the Nu Theta chapter of the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity.

On February 22, 2008, during an episode of SportsCenter, basketball legend Bill Walton surprised Jay Harris with a birthday cake. Bill Walton also mentioned that Jay shares his birthday with famous basketball player Julius Erving.
