Jean-Baptiste Le Roy was an important French scientist who lived a long time ago (from 1720 to 1800). He was a physicist, which means he studied how the world works, like energy and forces. He was also a big helper for a famous book called the Encyclopédie. This book was put together by Denis Diderot and Jean le Rond d’Alembert. Jean-Baptiste wrote many articles about technology for it.
His father, Julien Le Roy, was a well-known clockmaker in Paris. Jean-Baptiste had three brothers who were also very talented. Pierre Le Roy was a brilliant clockmaker, just like their father. Julien-David Le Roy became a famous architect and archaeologist. His brother Charles was a doctor and also helped with the Encyclopédie.
