Early Life: Jean-Baptiste's Beginnings
Jean-Baptiste Maunier was born on December 22, 1990. His father, Thierry Maunier, was a cameraman, and his mother is Muriel Maunier. Jean-Baptiste also has a younger brother named Benjamin. His father used to sing in a well-known church choir called Les Petits Chanteurs de Saint Marc.
Jean-Baptiste went to a Catholic school in Lyon, France. To become an even better actor and improve his English, he studied at the Lee Strasberg Institute in New York from 2008 to 2009. After that, he returned to France to sing in the Les Enfoirés charity concerts.
Jean-Baptiste Maunier: His Amazing Career
Acting: From Choirboy to Movie Star
Jean-Baptiste became widely known for his main role in the 2004 French film Les Choristes. In this movie, he played Pierre Morhange, a troubled student with a beautiful singing voice. The film's director, Christophe Barratier, chose Jean-Baptiste because he had "the right look" and a wonderful voice.
After the movie came out, Jean-Baptiste and the choir performed many concerts around the world. They even traveled to Japan and Canada. In February 2005, he left the choir. This allowed him to focus more on his studies and his acting career.
More Acting Roles
In April and August 2005, Jean-Baptiste appeared in a four-episode TV series called Le Cri. He played a young steelworker in this series, which was released in 2006.
He also acted in Le Grand Meaulnes (2006) as Francois Seurel. In the animated film Piccolo, Saxo et compagnie (2006), he lent his voice to the character "Saxo". In the summer of 2006, Jean-Baptiste filmed Hellphone, a movie directed by James Huth. He played the role of Sid in this film, which was released in March 2007.
In L'Auberge rouge, directed by Gérard Krawczyk, Jean-Baptiste starred as Octave. This movie opened in French theaters on December 5, 2007. Jean-Baptiste spent a year studying acting in New York in 2008. This helped him improve his acting skills and his English. He came back to France in 2010 and performed in the Enfoirés charity concert that year.
Singing: A Voice for Good Causes
When Jean-Baptiste started middle school (called collège in France), he chose singing as an activity. He then became a member of Les Petits Chanteurs de Saint-Marc. This choir's full name is "La Chorale des Petits Enfants De Saint-Marc". He was taught by Nicolas Porte in the choir.
In Les Choristes, the movie that made him famous, both Jean-Baptiste's solo singing and the choir's songs are on the official soundtrack.
In 2005, Jean-Baptiste sang with Clemence Saint-Preux to create the single Concerto pour deux voix. This song was a new version of Concerto pour une Voix. He wanted to record his voice before it changed as he grew older.
Since 2005, he has been part of Les Enfoirés. This is a group of famous French singers and performers who hold charity concerts. He sang a song called "Le Monde Qui Est Le Mien" for the album "We Love Disney 2". He also released a single called "Je Reviens".
