Jeddo is a small, quiet place in Bastrop County, Texas. It is an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own city government. In the year 2000, about 75 people lived in Jeddo. It is located within the larger Greater Austin metropolitan area.
Jeddo's Story: A Look Back
Jeddo began in 1874 when a post office opened there. Just five years later, people described it as a busy village. By 1890, about 20 people lived in Jeddo. At that time, it had one general store.
The number of people living in Jeddo changed a lot over the years. In 1896, it was reported that 560 people lived there. In 1904, the number was 559. However, the community quickly became much smaller. By 1914, only 12 people lived there.
Jeddo then disappeared from population lists for a while. Around 1933, 10 people and two businesses were reported. The post office had closed earlier, in 1927. From 1939 to 2000, the population stayed around 75 people.
The Jeddo Cemetery was started in 1865. A group called the Jeddo Cemetery Association takes care of it. As of 2011, there were 166 marked graves in the cemetery. The oldest grave found there is from 1835.
