Bridge History
Building the Bridge
Back in 1939, the St. Clair County Road Commission decided to build a new bridge here. The old bridge was too narrow and couldn't hold much weight. Ben L. Parker, who worked for the Commission, designed this new bridge.
A builder named Marshall Campbell from Port Huron won the job to build it. The cost was $9,855. The bridge was finished in the same year, 1939.
Recent Changes
In 2016, the bridge had to be closed. The concrete and steel parts of the bridge deck were getting old and weak. Now, people are looking for money to fix it so cars can use it again.
What the Bridge Looks Like
The Jeddo Road bridge is made of steel and concrete. It has two main sections that cross the water. In the middle of the stream, there's a strong concrete support.
Each section of the bridge has six strong steel beams, called stringers. These beams are held together by other steel I-beams. The longest part of each section is about 29 feet.
The whole bridge is 74 feet long and 23 feet wide. The part where cars drive is 20 feet wide, with concrete edges. Along the sides, there are metal railings. These railings are made from metal angles and channels, connected to posts.
