Jelena Tomašević (born November 1, 1983) is a famous Serbian pop singer. She is known for her powerful voice. Jelena has won many awards for her songs. She even represented Serbia at the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest. Her song "Oro" placed sixth in the competition.

Jelena's Music Journey
Jelena started singing at a very young age. When she was eight, she won a top award at a children's music festival called "Šarenijada" in Kragujevac. Three years later, she won the Yugoslav Children's Festival.
She joined the Abrašević Folklore Ensemble, a very successful Serbian group. This helped her music career grow a lot. She achieved great success at big festivals in Central and Eastern Europe. These included festivals in the Czech Republic, Belarus, and Bulgaria. In 1996, she won an award for best soloist at the Folklore Festival Serbian Ensembles.
Becoming a Pop Star
In 2002, Jelena became well-known in the Serbian music scene. Her career as a pop singer truly began. She competed in a TV show called "3K dur," which was like the "Idol" shows you might know. The show aimed to find new talented artists. Jelena won over the judges, and this was a big moment for her.
After this, Jelena made huge progress. In 2003, she sang for the first time at the Budva Festival. She also finished second at the important "Slavjanski bazar" festival in Belarus. That same year, she worked with a music group called Biber.
In 2004, she sang "Kad ne bude tvoje ljubavi" at the Beovizija Festival. This festival chooses Serbia's entry for the Eurovision Song Contest. Her performance was very successful.
Working with Željko Joksimović
In 2005, Jelena started working with the popular Serbian singer Željko Joksimović. She joined his production company, Minacord. At Beovizija 2005, she sang "Jutro," a song written by Željko Joksimović. She won the festival! Many people thought she would win the final competition for Serbia and Montenegro. However, she didn't get enough points from the Montenegrin judges. This was the last time Serbia and Montenegro competed together.
Later that year, Jelena sang the main song for the film Ivkova slava. Željko Joksimović also wrote this song. The movie was very popular and had many viewers. In September 2005, she sang at the opening of the EuroBasket 2005 in Belgrade. She was also a guest on Joksimović's album at the end of the year.
First Album and Eurovision Success
Many songs on her first album, "Panta rei," were written by her. In 2007, she wrote lyrics for the first time. She wrote the song "Gotova stvar" for Montenegrin singer Milena Vučić.
In December 2007, Jelena Tomašević entered Beovizija 2008 again. She sang "Oro," composed by Željko Joksimović. In March 2008, she won the Serbian national selection. She got the most points from both the jury and the public. She also won the award for best performance. Jelena then represented Serbia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 in Belgrade. She finished in sixth place.
Her first album, Panta rei, came out in October 2008. It had 15 songs, mostly composed by Željko Joksimović.
International Collaborations
In 2009, Jelena recorded a song about peace with other Eurovision 2008 participants. These were Boaz Mauda from Israel and Sirusho from Armenia. The song was called "Time To Pray." The lyrics were written by the president of Israel, Shimon Peres. The song was first played in Serbia during the Eurovision 2009 national final. It was also presented in Armenia and Israel that year.
In 2010, Jelena sang "Gde da odem da te ne volim" for a music collection called "Toše i prijatelji." This song was composed by Toše Proeski, a famous Macedonian singer. That summer, she filmed a music video in Ibiza. She also toured Yugoslavia as a guest at Joksimović's concerts.
In 2011, Jelena planned concerts in Canada and the US. She performed in Toronto. However, she had a visa problem when she arrived in Chicago, so she couldn't perform there.
New Songs and Second Album
After a short break for her wedding and the birth of her daughter, Jelena released a new song. On February 24, 2012, she released "Melanholija" on the TV show Ja imam talenat. The song was composed by Rafael Artesero from Spain. The lyrics were written by Ljiljana Jorgovanović.
The next year, on June 23, she released her second single, "Vertigo." This song was from her upcoming album. Her good friend Emina Jahović wrote and composed it.
On October 5, 2013, Jelena went to Barcelona. She was invited by OGAE Spain to sing for Eurovision fans. While there, she filmed her music video for "Radio svira za nas." This video was released on November 26, 2013. The song was composed by Darko Dimitrov.
Exactly one year later, OGAE Portugal invited Jelena as a guest star. She performed in two concerts in Setubal with great Portuguese artists.
On December 6, 2014, Jelena finished recording her second studio album. On May 29, 2015, she released another single called "Ime moje." One month later, her album, also called "Ime moje," was released. It included new songs, her singles from the past three years, and some older songs that had never been on an album before. She often said that this album was full of songs given to her as gifts from good friends.
From 2014 to 2018, Jelena was a judge on the Serbian children's talent show Pinkove zvezdice.
Theatre Performances
In 2012, Jelena performed in a musical called "Beli ždralovi" in Belgrade. This musical was based on the Soviet movie "The cranes are flying". In 2015, the Belarusian president Alexander Lukashenko invited this musical to Minsk. It was performed on May 5, 2015, to celebrate victory against Nazis. The Serbian actress Ivana Žigon directed the musical.
About Jelena's Life
Jelena finished elementary school and high school in Kragujevac in 2002. That same year, she started studying English at the University of Kragujevac. She speaks English very well. She paused her studies but plans to finish her degree one day.
On August 28, 2011, she married the Serbian actor Ivan Bosiljčić. On January 24, 2012, they had a baby girl named Nina.
