A Look Back in Time: Jelloway's History

Jelloway has an interesting past. The community was first started in the year 1840. When it was first laid out, it had a different name. People called it Brownsville.

How Jelloway Got Its Name

The name of the community changed from Brownsville to Jelloway. This new name came from a nearby stream. This stream is called Jelloway Creek. So, the community was named after the water flowing nearby!

The Old Post Office

For many years, Jelloway had its own post office. It opened in 1842. This was a place where people could send and receive letters. The post office served the community for a long time. It finally closed its doors in 1918.
