Jennifer McGrath Fitzpatrick is an American engineer. She was one of the first female engineers to work at Google. Today, she is a senior vice president at Google. She helps lead the teams that create and improve Google's main systems and user experiences.
Education and Early Career
Jen Fitzpatrick studied at Stanford University. She graduated in 1999 with a degree in symbolic systems and a master's degree in Computer Science. While she was a student, she started using Google.
In 1999, she joined Google's Summer Intern Program. She was one of only four interns that summer. This internship led to her becoming one of Google's first 30 employees.
Working at Google
After her internship, Google's founders hired Jen Fitzpatrick. She worked closely with Marissa Mayer, who became her mentor. Jen and Marissa believed it was important to have different kinds of people working at Google. To make sure Google hired a diverse group of people, they made sure at least one female leader interviewed every job candidate.
Jen Fitzpatrick has led the creation of many important Google products. These include AdWords, Google News, and Google Maps. She also worked on Product Search and corporate engineering. She helped start Google's team that focuses on how users experience products. This team makes sure Google's tools are easy and fun to use.
She even holds a special US design patent. This patent is for the famous look of the Google search engine home page. This shows how much she helped shape what Google looks like today.
