Jennifer Golbeck is an American computer scientist. She teaches at the University of Maryland, College Park. She is a professor in the College of Information. She also teaches in the Computer Science and Journalism departments. From 2011 to 2014, she led the Human–Computer Interaction Lab at the university.

Learning and Degrees
Jennifer Golbeck studied a lot to become a computer scientist. She earned her highest degree, a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), in computer science. She got this degree from the University of Maryland, College Park.
Before that, she earned other degrees from the University of Chicago. These included degrees in Computer Science and Economics. She also studied Psychology at Harvard University.
Exploring Social Networks
Jennifer Golbeck is well-known for her work with computer science and social network analysis. She figures out how to learn about people and their connections online. This includes understanding relationships in social networks.
She created some of the first ways to measure trust between people online. This idea of social trust was used in early systems that recommend things to you. For example, if your trusted friends like a movie, you might like it too.
Golbeck has also looked at how social media profiles can show someone's personality. She can even guess their political interests from their online activity. She gave a popular talk at TEDxMidatlantic. In this talk, she explained why people need to learn how to keep their personal information safe online. She also gave a TEDxGeorgetown talk about pets on the internet.

Jennifer Golbeck writes for many popular magazines and newspapers. These include Slate, The Atlantic, and Wired. She has also written for HuffPost and the LA Times. She has even been a guest host on the Kojo Nnamdi Show. This is a talk show on a radio station in Washington, DC.
Besides her computer science work, she is also a photojournalist. She takes pictures of news, political events, and protests.
Golbeck wrote a book called The Purest Bond: Understanding the Human-Canine Connection. She wrote it with Stacey Colino. This book explores the science behind why people feel so connected to their dogs. It became a bestseller soon after it was released.

Jennifer Golbeck lives in two different places. She spends time in Silver Spring, Maryland, and also in the Florida Keys.
Social Media Fun
Golbeck is very active on social media. Her TikTok account shares information about her research. It has over 200,000 followers. Her Twitter account also has many followers, more than 40,000.
She and her husband help rescue golden retrievers that have special needs. They run popular social media accounts for these dogs called The Golden Ratio. These accounts share pictures and videos of their dogs. They have over 600,000 followers on Snapchat and 170,000 on Twitter. One of their foster dogs, Cheddar, was adopted by a famous photojournalist, Alex Brandon.
Golbeck also manages other social media accounts. One is "jen runs with dogs." It shows her experiences as an ultramarathon runner. She also produces podcasts like The Golden Ratio Podcast, Murders in Paradise, and Runs With Dogs.
