Jenny Antoinette Baglivo (born 1948) is an American mathematician, statistician, and author. She used to be a professor of mathematics at Boston College. Now, she is a retired research professor there.

Becoming a Math Expert: Jenny Baglivo's Journey

Jenny Baglivo grew up in Brooklyn, New York. Her father repaired watches. She was the only one of her four siblings to go to college. She chose to study mathematics at Fordham University and finished in 1970.

After Fordham, she continued her studies at Syracuse University. She earned a master's degree in mathematics in 1972. Later, in 1976, she received another master's degree in computer and information science. In the same year, she also earned her Ph.D. in mathematics. Her special area of study was algebraic topology, which is a branch of mathematics that uses tools from abstract algebra to study topological spaces. Her Ph.D. paper was about a topic called Equivariant Wall Obstruction Theory.

Early Career and Research

After getting her Ph.D., Jenny Baglivo became a math professor at Fairfield University. She taught there and was promoted in 1981. While still at Fairfield, she also worked as a researcher at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center from 1980 to 1982.

At the Cancer Center, she used her skills in biostatistics. This field uses statistics to solve problems in biology and health. She worked on analyzing CT scans of brains. In 1986, she moved from Fairfield University to Boston College. She became a full professor there in 1992.

Books by Jenny Baglivo

Jenny Baglivo has written several books. One of her books is called Incidence and Symmetry in Design and Architecture. She wrote it with Jack E. Graver, and it came out in 1983. This book won an award in 1983. It has also been suggested as a good book for college math libraries.

She also wrote Mathematica Laboratories for Mathematical Statistics: Emphasizing Simulation and Computer Intensive Methods. This book was published in 2005.
