About Jens Bergensten
Jens Peder Bergensten was born on May 18, 1979, in Örebro, Sweden.
On May 11, 2013, Jens married Jenny Bergensten, who is a photographer. They had a son named Björn on December 10, 2015.
His Journey in Gaming
Jens Bergensten started making his own games when he was just 11 years old. He used early computer languages like BASIC and Turbo Pascal. By the time he was 21, he was creating maps and mods for the game Quake III Arena.
He worked as a programmer for a game company called Korkeken Interactive Studio. This company later went out of business. After that, Bergensten moved to Malmö. He earned a master's degree in computer science from Lund University in 2008.
Early Game Projects
While working at Korkeken, Jens also spent his free time making an online role-playing game called Whispers in Akarra. This game had a few hundred players. He stopped working on it because it changed too much from his original idea. In 2008, he shared the tools and code for Akarra so others could use them.
After this, he started a new game company called Oxeye Game Studio. He teamed up with Daniel Brynolf and Pontus Hammarber. They wanted to make a new game similar to Whispers in Akarra. Their first project was Dawn of Daria, which was a fantasy life simulator. This project was also stopped after some early tests.
Oxeye Game Studio then focused on making other games. They became known for the strategy game Harvest: Massive Encounter. Later, they also made the platform games Cobalt and Cobalt WASD.
Joining Mojang Studios
In November 2010, Jens Bergensten joined Mojang Studios. He first worked on a game called Scrolls. Soon, he started programming more and more parts of Minecraft.
In December 2011, he became the lead designer for Minecraft. He took over this role from Markus Persson. Jens also helped create a game called Catacomb Snatch during a special game-making event. More recently, he has appeared in videos for Minecraft Live with Agnes Larsson.
Today, Jens Bergensten is the chief creative officer at Mojang Studios. This means he helps guide all the creative projects at the company.
