Jens Peder Bergensten (born May 18, 1979), also known as Jeb, is a Swedish video game programmer and designer. He is most famous for being the main designer of Minecraft. He is also the chief creative officer at Mojang Studios, the company that makes Minecraft.

In 2013, Time magazine named him and Minecraft's creator, Markus Persson, among the 100 most influential people in the world. Jens started working on Minecraft with Persson in 2010. He became the lead designer in 2011. When Persson left Mojang in 2014, Jens took full control of the game's design.

Jens's Early Life and Family

Jens Peder Bergensten was born in Örebro, Sweden, on May 18, 1979.

On May 11, 2013, Jens married Jenny Bergensten, who is a photographer. They had a son named Björn on December 10, 2015.

Jens's Journey in Gaming

Jens started making his own games when he was just 11 years old. He used simple programming languages like BASIC and Turbo Pascal. By the time he was 21, he was creating maps and mods for the game Quake III Arena.

He worked as a programmer for a game company called Korkeken Interactive Studio. This company later became Oblivion Entertainment. After that, Jens moved to Malmö and studied computer science at Lund University. He earned his master's degree in 2008.

Early Game Projects

While working at Korkeken, Jens also led a side project. It was an online role-playing game called Whispers in Akarra. Hundreds of players enjoyed this game. However, Jens stopped working on it because it wasn't going in the direction he wanted. In 2008, he shared the tools and code for Akarra's server so others could use them.

After Akarra, Jens started a new game company called Oxeye Game Studio. He teamed up with Daniel Brynolf and Pontus Hammarber. They wanted to create a new game similar to Whispers in Akarra. Their first project was Dawn of Daria, an online fantasy life simulator. After some early tests, this game was also stopped.

Oxeye Game Studio then focused on making other games. They became known for the strategy game Harvest: Massive Encounter. Later, they also made the platform games Cobalt and Cobalt WASD. Before joining Mojang, Jens also worked for an online learning community called Planeto until November 24, 2010.

Working at Mojang Studios

In November 2010, Jens Bergensten joined Mojang Studios. He started as a developer for their game Scrolls. Soon, he began working more and more on Minecraft. By December 2011, he became the lead designer of Minecraft, taking over from Markus Persson.

Jens also helped create Catacomb Snatch during a special game-making event called Humble Bundle Mojam. In recent years, Jens has appeared in videos for Minecraft Live, which is a big online event for Minecraft fans. He often appears with Agnes Larsson, another important person at Mojang.

Today, Jens Bergensten is the chief creative officer at Mojang Studios. This means he helps guide all the creative projects at the company.
