Jerónimo Rodríguez de Espinosa was an important Spanish painter. He lived during the Renaissance period. He was born in Valladolid in 1562. He mostly worked in the Valencia area. He passed away around 1630 in Valencia.
Early Life and Family
Jerónimo Rodríguez de Espinosa started his journey as an artist in his hometown. He learned to paint in Valladolid, Spain. As an adult, he moved to a town called Cocentaina in Valencia.
In Cocentaina, he got married in 1596. His wife's name was Aldonza Lied. They had a son named Jerónimo Jacinto de Espinosa. Their son also became a very famous painter. He was well-known during the time of King Philip IV.
Famous Paintings
Jerónimo Rodríguez de Espinosa created many beautiful paintings. In 1600, he painted two pictures for the church in Cocentaina. These paintings were of St. Lorenzo and St. Hipólito. The very next year, he painted St. Sebastian and St. Roque. He gave these paintings to the same church.
From 1604 to 1607, he worked on a big project. He teamed up with another artist named Jayme Terol. Jayme Terol was a student of Fray Nicolas Borras. Together, they painted pictures for the main altar. This altar was in St. John Baptist's Church in the town of Muro. Jerónimo Rodríguez de Espinosa died in Valencia.
